Healthy, shiny, soft hair every day -- is it possible? It turns out that the way you wash your hair can make a huge difference. Shampoo, conditioner, and heat protectant all play an essential role. Let's break it down.

Shampoo Do's and Don'ts

The first step to shiny, beautiful hair is to select the right shampoo for your hair type. For curly, wavy, or kinky hair, you will want a super moisturizing product, like our sulfate-free Hydration Moisture Shampoo, made with honey butter. This shampoo is perfect for cleaning and hydrating hair while protecting it from damage.

Once you have your shampoo, it's time to get washing. First, give your hair a good soak for at least one minute under hot water. Dry hair won't absorb all the nutrients from the shampoo, so make sure it's nice and wet. Now, apply about a teaspoon of shampoo to the scalp. Unless your hair is really long or incredibly thick, this is all you need. Seriously, you don't need a whole handful of shampoo. Lather the shampoo gently around your scalp and around the nape of your neck, working toward the ends. Next, rinse thoroughly with cold water. Cold water will seal the cuticles and keep more moisture in. Once you've shampooed, you are ready for conditioner.

The Right Way to Use Conditioner

Choose a moisturizing conditioner without sulfate for soft, shiny hair with no residue, like our Hydration Moisture Conditioner. To apply, gently wring out the excess water from your clean hair and use about a teaspoon of conditioner on the ends only. Carefully distribute the product from the middle of the hair to the ends with your fingers or a comb. Leave the conditioner on your hair for a minute or two, then rinse well with cool water. Make sure your hair feels clean. You don't want to leave any sticky build-up that will eventually cause damage. Then, lightly towel dry your hair.

Pro Tip: Use a Heat Protectant

If you are blow-drying or flat-ironing your hair, this is a MUST. Not only will it protect your hair, but also add shine, tame frizz, and block out humidity. Before styling, evenly spray your damp or dry hair with Bye Bye Frizz Heat Protectant.  Most stylists agree that heat protectant is an essential part of a hair care routine and we believe that you will absolutely love the way your hair looks and feels.
