How To Get Rid of Dryness & Flakes

Having a dry and or flaky scalp is not an uncommon thing, so please do not think you are the only one who has experienced it. While there is no specific cause for a dry scalp or flakes unless determined by a dermatologist, there are a few things that can be potential sources such as products that dry out your scalp leaving it without moisture, or when your scalp has too much oil which builds up the scalps skin cells causing dandruff. While this may be rather irritating we want to help you suppress the dryness and get rid of those flakes for a more enjoyable hair care journey. Below we have a few tips to help:

  • Be sure to thoroughly wash out your shampoo, leaving behind shampoo can irritate your scalp and add to the build-up that can potentially be flake causing
  • Use a moisturizing shampoo because it not only washes away dirt but it also replenishes the oil that gets washed away with the dirt
  • When shampooing incorporate a scalp massager because not only does it feel good but it helps to exfoliate the scalp freeing up dead skin and flakes to be washed down the drain along with the dirt
  • Use a conditioner that caters to your hair porosity, your porosity is your hair's ability to obtain and retain moisture, so if you are using a conditioner that your hair can easily obtain and retain then you are ensuring your hair and scalp are moisturized
  • Massage your scalp, either with a light oil or because it can draw out the natural oils in the scalp while stimulating blood circulation loosening up flakes
  • Drink more water, yes you read that right. Your water intake hydrates your entire body including your scalp and hair, so when you take in enough water you are satisfying the thirst of your hair
  • Incorporate an oil into your hair care routine, different oils have anti-fungal and antibacterial properties that help relieve inflammation, relieve dry scalp, moisturize the scalp, and suppress itch
  • Try using warm water when cleansing because hot water can intensify the dryness of your hair and scalp while using warm water is much gentler
